Remove EXIF & GPS Data from Photos

Strip location, camera, and date metadata from a JPEG before you share it. Your photo is never uploaded — the cleaning happens entirely in your browser, and the image pixels are not re-encoded, so quality does not change.

What Is Removed — And What Is Not

Removed

  • GPS location (latitude, longitude, altitude)
  • Camera make, model, lens and shooting settings
  • Date and time the photo was taken
  • EXIF and XMP metadata segments, plus IPTC and comment segments

Kept, honestly

  • The image pixels themselves — no re-encoding, no quality loss
  • JFIF and colour-profile segments, so colours stay as they were
  • Nothing visible in the photo itself: faces, signs and landmarks in the picture stay visible
  • JPEG only: PNG, WebP and other formats are not cleaned by this tool

1. Upload

Choose a JPEG. The tool first shows exactly what GPS, camera and date data the file stores, so you can see what a stranger would see.

2. Remove

One click strips the metadata segments from the file in your browser. The photo never leaves your device.

3. Verify

Download the clean copy and open it in the EXIF Viewer. Share only the copy that reports no GPS data.

Questions

Will removing EXIF change how my photo looks?

No. Only metadata segments are removed; the image data is copied unchanged, so there is no re-encoding and no quality loss.

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything runs in your browser, the same way the EXIF Viewer and geotagging tools work. Closing the page discards the file.

Why JPEG only?

EXIF in the form this tool strips lives in JPEG segments. Other formats store metadata differently, so this tool refuses them rather than pretending to clean them.

Does this hide where the photo was taken from the picture itself?

No. It removes hidden metadata only. A visible street sign, landmark or face in the picture itself stays visible — check the picture, not just its metadata, before posting.
